Coup Game Review
Dictionary.com defines Coup:
The game is easy to play and understand. I felt that the rule book and the hint cards are well laid out with proper information.
The game does not have a lot of replay-ability in my opinion. The reason for my thinking this stems from playing with the same players over and over. Once you learn to read someone, it become difficult to bluff or incorporate a level of strategy. The game comes down to playing the players rather than paying attention to the base strategies.
Also if you are a “good” player (as in you can read others well), you will be ganged up on, and taken out. There is not a ton of defense against this, because your resources are low, and 2 players could take you out quickly. So playing more stupid and passive seems to be rewarded. Also as in any game where you try to defend yourself through argument, he or she that protests too much is dead as well.
I can stand 1 or 2 play throughs of this game, but it really is not a favorite of mine. As for my wife and others, this game hits the spot. I am guessing that it all depends on what you consider “fun”. This game does offer a quick taste of a larger deception game (which it was based on i.e. Resistance).
Tell me what game I should check out NEXT in the comments below.
